How do I get a new email address set up?
Send an email to isd@archdiocese-no.org with the following information:
Name of email address recipient
Domain, if applicable (if not archdiocese-no.org)
Desired password
We will send you a confirmation email when the new address has been set up.
How do I configure my email program so I can check my Archdiocese email?Configuring an email program like Outlook or Thunderbird to check your email is easy. Most of the blanks you will be able to figure out by yourself. But here are the tricky ones:Incoming (POP) mail server: mail.archdiocese-no.org
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: smtp.archdiocese-no.org
If your Archdiocesan email address ends in something other than “@archdiocese-no.org”, then your username is your complete email address, not just the part before the @.
Why can’t I send an email to this bulk account? I used to be able to!Because inappropriate emails were being sent to some of our bulk email addresses, such as allschools@archdiocese-no.org, we had to change our bulk email policy. If you would like to send an email to an entire list, you must be a member of that list. Send us an email if you are having trouble sending email to a bulk list, and we will ensure that you are a member of that list.
How can I check to see who is subscribed to this bulk account? If you belong to a email list, you can send an email to the server that will respond automatically with a list of the users on that list. Here’s how, using the example of allschools@archdiocese-no.org:1. Send an email to imailsrv@archdiocese-no.org
2. Make the body of the email “list allschools” (without quotes)
Within a few minutes, you should get an email with a list of all email addresses subscribed to that list.
If you are checking on a list that does not end in “archdiocese-no.org”, simply replace all instances of “archdiocese-no.org” with the correct domain.
Computer SecurityHow can I reduce the risk of getting viruses and spyware on my computer?Because most viruses and spyware programs are written to target Microsoft products such as Internet Explorer and Outlook (Express), you can drastically reduce your risks by using other programs for browsing website and checking your email. Try Mozilla Firefox as a browser, and for checking mail, you can use a program like Mozilla Mail or Pegasus Email. Alternatively, you can check your email via the web by going to:
http://mail.archdiocese-no.org
Why do I receive messages saying that I sent a virus to an email address that I have never seen before? Many email-borne viruses on the internet today will collect email addresses from a pc when it is infected. Once it collects all the emails, it will send the virus out. It will use addresses it found as the To: and From: headers of the email. So even if your email address is listed in the From:, it doesn’t actually mean that you or your pc sent the message (it could be someone who has your email in their address book).
